Surgical scar revision

Scar tissue can remain noticeable, tight, or uneven after an injury or surgery. Surgical scar excision (scar revision) is a targeted procedure in which the scar is removed or reshaped, and the skin is sutured in a more favorable direction. The goal is a smoother appearance, improved elasticity, and greater comfort in everyday life.
Aesthetically smoother scar
Improved skin mobility and comfort
Precise incision and suturing
Long-lasting result with proper care

Procedure Information

outpatient / with short hospitalization (depending on extent)
general / local for smaller procedures
30–90 minutes (depending on size and location)
absorbable / removable depending on the area
Targeted Resuturing for a Smoother Appearance
Excision allows removal of thickened or contracted areas and placement of a new scar along natural skin lines, where it is less noticeable.
Relief from Tightness and Pulling
For scars that restrict movement or create tension, resuturing and tissue release can significantly improve comfort in everyday activities.

    Before and After the Procedure

How does surgical scar revision work?

    Individual Plan and Scar Marking

During the consultation, the doctor evaluates the type of scar, skin quality, and the direction of skin lines. Expectations, technique options, and anesthesia are discussed. Before the procedure, the area is precisely marked so that the new scar follows the most discreet path, considering both function and aesthetics of the surrounding area.

Gentle Scar Revision and Precise Suturing

Under general anesthesia (or local for smaller procedures), the scar is excised according to the planned shape. The doctor releases tension and may perform a Z-plasty to interrupt pulling forces. The incision is then carefully closed in layers with fine sutures, aligning the skin edges to ensure the smoothest possible healing.

    Dressing, Taping, and Postoperative Care

After closure, a sterile dressing is applied, and taping may be used to stabilize the edges. Clear instructions are provided regarding gentle care, scar management, showering, and when to begin pressure or massage. Follow-up appointments monitor healing and advise on the appropriate time to return to sports.

    Post-operative Course

    1st–3rd day
Rest, keep dressing dry, gentle hygiene
    7th–14th day
Follow-up, possible suture removal depending on location
    2nd–6th week
    Taping/massage as recommended, avoid tension
    3rd–6th month
Gradual fading of the scar, possibility of additional laser or peeling treatment
