Lipedema

Painful swelling, pressure, or disproportionate fat accumulation on the legs or arms can be a sign of lipedema – a chronic disorder of the fatty tissue that predominantly affects women. Unlike common overweight, it usually does not respond to diet or exercise. Liposuction for lipedema can help remove excess fatty tissue, relieve perceived pain, and restore a more natural shape and lightness to the limbs during movement.

    Before and After the Procedure

    How does lipedema works?

    Consultation and treatment plan

During the initial consultation, the surgeon will assess the stage of lipedema, skin quality, and sensitive areas. Together, you will choose the appropriate method (e.g., ultrasound-assisted or water-assisted), the extent of treatment, and possible staged division. You will receive a clear plan, preparation recommendations, and information about the compression regimen.

    Procedure overview

The procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the extent. The treated area is infiltrated with a tumescent solution, and the lipedemic tissue is gently suctioned out using a fine cannula. The process is conducted carefully to preserve lymphatic pathways. Compression garments are applied at the end, and you will receive care instructions.

Individual stages and the first days

For more extensive cases, the procedure is planned in multiple steps (e.g., thighs, calves, or arms separately) to ensure safety and smooth healing. After surgery, light walking, rest, and regular check-ups are recommended. Compression garments help shape the limbs and reduce swelling.
