How does rhinoplasty work?

Consultation and method selection

During the initial consultation, the doctor will assess your facial proportions, nose shape, and any functional issues. You will discuss expectations and simulate possible results. The differences between open and closed techniques will be explained, and the approach that best suits your goals and anatomy will be chosen.

Step-by-step surgery

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon adjusts the bony and cartilaginous parts of the nose, and possibly reshapes the tip or nostrils. The open method provides wider access and is suitable for more complex changes. The closed method leaves no external scars and is chosen for smaller corrections. Emphasis is placed on natural lines and stable nasal support.

Immediately after the procedure

The nose is stabilized with a splint, sometimes with gentle nasal packing. You will receive instructions on cooling and sleeping positions. The first days typically involve swelling and bruising, which gradually subside. The splint is usually removed and a follow-up appointment scheduled within 10 days. Return to normal activities is gradual, with sports resuming after a few weeks according to your doctor’s advice.
